Babies Bathwater and Launches
The dust has started to settle from the salacious rhubarb that was the "unsubscribe from launch emails" post. Though, the attitude of many of the thousands who read (and more than 200 who commented) reflect bone-weariness with bombardment on launch day - the launch grind continues unabated, because they make a lot of money.
The question, then becomes how do you, as a roll-up-your-sleeves working Internet marketer, sort out what is truly valuable (for you) and what is bad or simply not for you - from new products, services, software, and training that could be vital to your success?
To say that everything sold via some form of the launch method is bad, is obviously nonsense. But, "let the buyer beware" has been prudent advice for centuries. From my previous career as a success and motivation trainer my belief in being a continuous learner is rock steady. I read, study and follow a few select mentors, as well as participate in a couple of "mastermind alliances", all of which support my success and often limit my failures as well as challenge me to fulfill my potential.
You probably already know that I studied under Jeff Johnson for more than a year. I blogged recently about his Killer App Traffic King Pro. Today Jeff has totally redesigned his Underground Training Lab, thanks in large part to his better half, Anna, who brings a lot of experience in organization to Jeff's mastery and relentless innovation and training in real world niche market success.
Unlike a "cut and paste" email to make an affiliate buck - I can honestly write from my personal experience of being a student of Jeff's that he is a one-of-a-kind stud horse of discovering new and innovative marketing methods and best of all - documenting and teaching these methods.
You see, there are people who know how to do a thing - but, lack the ability to translate their experience in a way that others can grasp and duplicate that experience. Jeff is aces in both areas.
I've long believed that the path to success in online marketing is one of focus and perseverance on a single method and model.
When you are running all over the Internet downloading reports and trying to figure out things for yourself you run the big risk of, as Maxwell Smart says, "missing it by that much!"
Regardless of where you are in your online business I really encourage you to take a long look at what Jeff is offering now. Yeah, I know, you got a lot of emails about Jeff's "launch" but you can count me in the camp of folks who believe wholeheartedly in what Jeff is offering and in who he is as a man of integrity and a mentor well worth following with confidence.

If you have some idea of where you want to go and are honest with yourself, you can pretty much weed out the crap of what to or not to download. I didn't have a game plan in the beginning so I own a ton of crap. :]
But, I learned a lot from it, so it's not a total loss. I've been able to recycle a lot of it and use it for projects.
The hard part for me, though, was finding someone to follow whose ideas fit my personality and was preferably free! Thus! The benefit of signing up for every newsletter known to man (of which I've now deleted thanks to Rick)! :]
Anyway, one of them had a link to the 30 Day Challenge! Ed got me on my feet, which led to me learning from Joel Comm, which led to Rick Butts who played a mime on one of Joel's shows! And somewhere along the line I got connected with Yaro Starak. So, those are my four and they blend together really well! :]

I wanted to wait until the dust settled on this before I offered the following info.
I will be one who will be launching a new product within the next year and half for folks who do digital design. While some of the conversations over hyped up product launches has made me question releasing my product next year I am still going through with it because I feel I offer something that will add value to digital designers who especially use paint shop pro.
I do want to commend you for taking this on tho and also for how well you handled the barrage of comments rather they were aligned with your viewpoint or not. You will be one I am adding to my list of internet guru's to follow for a long time to come.

Thanks Joe and YoBee for your kind words.
It is amazing that YoBee can trace his connections like that - but this is how we all end up connecting.
It proves my point too, that we are all a lot more inter-connected than we were in 2005 when John Reese did his Traffic Secrets Launch and makes a great case for Jack Humphrey's whole Social Marketing Course…

I've looked at both of Jeff's launches, and all I can say is WOW, are you guys greedy or what? How is a 'normal' person who is trying to carve out a living supposed to afford these ridiculously high membership fees?
I'm CERTAIN that the products deliver, but COME ON, be honest and tell me you don't give a HOOT about my success, just as long as you can get me to pay big bucks to 'listen' to your advice, which I'm certain will entail follow-up EXPENSIVE products.
Am I serious about my business? YOU BET! I'm tired of that 'ploy', that if you AREN'T spending this big money to be part of the 'inner guru groupies', (hmm, good name for a blog) that somehow you aren't committed to success.
It just makes me angry that you actually ACT and 'speak' as if you care about people. Give me a break!
Hi Rick,
I recently heard Liz Tomey say something that relates to this issue in her Marathon Call with Jeff Dedrick, and it has had a great impact on how I react to all of the new product hoopla.
Liz said,
"Something I have learned from Robert Puddy’s seminars is that even I am doing a few things wrong. And the biggest thing is that if it doesn't apply to your business model, it doesn't apply.
You stay away from it. You don't focus on it because what you will find yourself doing is hopping. You hop to this, you hop to that. You have got to stay focused. This is my business model. This is what I do. If it doesn't relate, it doesn't exist. And another thing I have been teaching my coaching clients is kind of like the 24-hour rule.
And this 24-hour rule is about buying, because buying stuff is all great, and you need to continue your education. But if you can't use it or need it in 24 hours, don't buy it.
I don't care if someone comes along and says, 'Oh, it is the latest greatest, and it is never going to be done again.' If it is in Internet Marketing, it is going to be done over and over and over and over again. So that is a big thing. Focus? If you don't have focus, you are going down."
