Direct Mail in a Digital World

Here's a strange case that illustrates and then illuminates a modern marketing story you should find very interesting.

I use Google Alerts to keep tabs on some people, keywords, and topics. One of the alerts I run is for a guy I find a very interesting marketer and innovator, a maverick and a cool guy.

Today an alert arrived for his name - and I followed it to a marketing blog post that just hit the wire today. The blog belongs to Jonathan Mizel. Jonathan had worked with one of of the folks I follow - and mentioned his name in the body text of his post.

You can see his excellent post about Direct Mail here.

In an incredibly coincidental twist of fate - he was talking about the overload of email as the amount of direct mail decreased - but is now on the rise as email spam and over newslettering just dogs us all, particularly in the Internet marketing niche.

I used to be a member of Jonathan's coaching club back in 2003. He had quietly disappeared into the waves of Hawaii. But one thing is for sure, he's always near the nexus of what's either happenning next or about to happen next.

So I meet a stranger, Bill Myers, start tracking him on Google Alerts to see what he's up to, it leads me to rediscover my once-upon-a-time mentor Jonathan Mizel - then the article brings a direct mail piece by a 3rd Person Marlon Sanders, whom I got a killer direct mail piece today!

Go to the post and read my comment. I'll post tomorrow about the piece I got from Marlon today - it is incredibly buzzworthy for us all - as we build our brand - and create our unique identity for our Lifestyle Business in Internet marketing.
